Jack seldom gets home before nine o'clock.
Seeing the unopened medicine in the trash can, his eyebrows twitched slightly:
"You have nothing to do? Are you so angry over such a small matter?"
I responded calmly:
"I'm not angry."
He laughed sarcastically:
"You threw away all the pregnancy preparation pills, and you still say you're not angry?"
"It's up to you. Anyway, you're the one who's worried about not getting pregnant, not me."
I was just about to take out the pregnancy test report, but he handed me a dark shoe box first.
"Mona gave it to you."
"The little girl has never experienced anything. Seeing you angry, she was so scared that she even said something stupid like abortion. She had to give you something to apologize."
He opened the box as he spoke. Inside was a pair of YSL high heels, but they were obviously worn, with obvious wear on the soles and some paint peeling off the outside of the heels.
"Here, these shoes are not cheap, and Mona has only worn them a few times."
"She just started working not long ago, so she can't come up with anything good. Giving you a pair of shoes is a painful part of her life."
I burst out laughing when I heard that.
Just half an hour before Jack arrived home, Mona posted a message on WeChat Moments to show off the new pair of Chanel slippers she had received.
【The best boss in the world! 】
[Thanks to your blatant preference, I dare to show off so blatantly! ]
Seeing that I refused to accept the shoes, Jack frowned unhappily:
"Grace, what's wrong with you again?"
"You're almost thirty, do you think it's fun to embarrass a little girl who doesn't understand the ways of the world!"
After saying that, he threw the box directly at me, hitting me right on the head.
I groaned, covered my forehead, and tears welled up in the corners of my eyes.
Jack's eyes flashed with panic:
"I didn't mean to...let me see."
I dodged his hand that was about to touch me and whispered:
"I'm fine."
He pried open my fingers that were covering my forehead, and when he saw the redness and swelling, his face darkened instantly:
“Is this okay?”
"Wait for me, I'll go buy some ice packs."
Before I could stop him, his cell phone rang.
The lit phone screen clearly displayed the caller's note: Little Troublemaker.
"Brother Jack!"
Hearing the delicate crying voice from the other side, Jack immediately became nervous:
" Don't be impatient, Mona. Speak slowly."
Mona sobbed on the other end of the phone.
"I have a stomachache and want to go to the hospital for emergency treatment, but I took the wrong subway and I don't know where I am now..."
Jack frowned:
"Why didn't you call me when you went to the hospital?"
"Didn't we agree that I would drive you there?"
Mona stammered:
"I was stupid again today and made Sister Grace unhappy. I'm sorry to bother you again..."
Jack told her solemnly:
"Mona, you are pregnant now, no one's affairs are more important than yours."
"Send me your location on WeChat and I'll pick you up."
"No! Brother Jack, I can find the hospital by myself, seriously!"
"Don't forget, today is Sister Grace's ovulation day. Stay with her and let her give birth to a baby for you soon!"
Jack chuckled:
" Silly, it's not like you can get pregnant just by doing it one more time. Your business is more important, send me the location now!"
After hanging up the phone, he glanced at me with a reproachful look:
"Did you hear that? Mona cares so much about you, yet you're still suspicious all the time!"
"I'll take her to the hospital and bring you an ice pack."
After saying that, he took the car keys and hurried out.
"Jack, wait a minute."
I called him.
He roared in intolerance:
"Grace, are you done yet?"
"This concerns two lives! Don't be too jealous!"
I didn't defend myself, but went to the cloakroom and took out a card from the coat he had worn a few days ago:
"Don't forget Mona's medical insurance card."
Mona doesn't know how to register, so her medical insurance card has been kept with Jack .
Jack looked at me with a surprised look on his face.
It took a long time before he reached out and took it:
"Thanks."
He seemed to want to say something else, but I interrupted him:
"Be careful on the road."
I raised my hand and straightened his collar, just as I usually did when I saw him out.
I know this is the last time.
He looked at my face, as if he was moved. He suddenly held my hand and pulled me close to his chest:
"I'll be back soon, wait for me."
