Olivia stolperte, als sie aufstand. Sie lächelte schwach. „Ich habe mich in ihn verliebt, als ich ihn zum ersten Mal sah. Ich liebe ihn schon so viele Jahre. Ich – ich kann ihn nicht einfach gehen lassen.“

Keith sah, wie Tränen über ihr Gesicht strömten. Er wollte sie ihr abwischen, aber dazu war er nicht in der Lage. Er konnte nur still sitzen und sie ansehen.

Tränen liefen ihr übers Kinn. Olivia lächelte ironisch. „Ich weiß, es ist erdrückend. Aber der Gedanke, ihm dabei zuzusehen, wie er ein anderes Mädchen heiratet, schmerzt mehr als mein Krebs. Ich habe keinen Grund zu leben, also entscheide ich mich für den Tod.“
