Chapter 3 You Must Go
Hearing Laura's words, the two mother and daughter blocked the door even more firmly, crossed their arms over their chests, and stared at Laura provocatively. Laura sneered and mocked, "Why, you don't want to continue pretending to be a good sister and stepmother?"
The mother and daughter have been playing double-faced roles since she returned to the Lowe family. They said one thing in front of their father and another behind his back. Laura was used to it and would never believe their words.
She didn't want to get entangled with the two people anymore, so she squeezed in through the gap between them. The mother and daughter were squeezed by her, and Ravenna almost fell because she was wearing high heels. Rose hurriedly supported her mother, but she still shouted: " Laura , wait until Dad comes back, and see how arrogant you are!"
Laura turned a deaf ear and went straight upstairs.
At noon, Mr. LoweMarcus finally came back. At the dinner table, he said to Laura straight to the point: "Laura, go to that room again tonight, Mr. James will be waiting for you there. Mr. James doesn't care about what happened last night, as long as you can serve him well today, he will still consider investing."
Hearing this, Laura was shocked and could not believe her ears. She was not allowed to go yesterday, but today they wanted her to go! Could it be that for the sake of the company's interests, they really wanted to push their daughter into the fire pit before they would give up? Or was it for this reason that they brought her back from the country?
"I won't go." Laura refused flatly. Seeing his daughter's firm attitude, Marcus began to play the emotional card: " Laura , this company was founded by your mother. Now the company is in crisis. You don't want your mother's hard work to go to waste, right?"
"So you still remember that this is mom's hard work?" Laura looked up at her father and sneered.
Marcus' face flashed with embarrassment: "I was the one who let your mother down back then, am I not trying my best to make up for it now?"
"Your so-called compensation is to abandon her daughter in the countryside and ignore her. After finally bringing her back, you let her sell her body?" Laura's tone was full of anger and disappointment. "Now that the company is in crisis, Dad is helpless?"
Laura looked at her father, her heart sinking little by little. She wanted to argue, but swallowed it back. For such a bad-intentioned parent, it would be futile to say more.
She glanced at Rose, who was pretending to eat obediently but actually gloating over the misfortune, and sneered, "Don't you have a daughter? They have enjoyed it for so many years, it's time for them to contribute a little."
As soon as these words came out, Marcus, who was originally friendly , suddenly had a gloomy face and said seriously: "Don't set your mind on your sister. She is engaged to the Smith family . You can't ruin her."
Laura 's heart sank to the bottom of the valley because of her father's unthinking defense . "So you want to ruin me?" She asked in grief and anger, "But I remember that the Smith family was not satisfied with my sister being the daughter of a mistress and planned to cancel the engagement."
As soon as these words came out, Rose and Ravenna's faces turned pale instantly. Being a mistress is one thing, but being exposed by others is another.
Seeing Laura was so stubborn, Marcus finally got angry and said, "I tell you, you have to go today!" Then, he took out his last trump card, "If you want to get the shares your mother left you, you'd better be obedient!"
Hearing this, Laura was stunned and her fingers clenched unconsciously. Her grandfather had mentioned the matter of shares to her before he died. She came back this time to get back the shares and to see what kind of person this father who cruelly abandoned his own daughter to the countryside was. She had hesitated and felt reluctant about the shares before, after all, this was the company her father had worked so hard to run for so long. But now, she understands that some people are not worthy of being a father.
A fierce light gradually appeared in Laura's eyes...
