Chapter 7 I'll Stop If You Cry
Victoria loves playing cards and often competes with Edward and his brothers. The brothers always indulge her and let her have a lot of fun. However, Theodore never joins the ranks of this "good brother".
Not only did he not let Victoria touch the cards, he also repeatedly pointed at her. Edward's chips on the table were soon lost by her, and Victoria's eyebrows were twisted into knots.
She felt that Theodore was deliberately making things difficult for her, and this was not the first time he had acted like a bully.
Alexander saw it and felt pain in his heart. He begged Theodore: "Can you please click on me? Don't make sister Victoria cry, otherwise Edward will not forgive you when he comes back."
Theodore glanced over lazily from the opposite side, looking at Victoria 's eyes with interest : "Are you crying? If you cry, I will stop."
Alexander sighed helplessly: "You really owe it."
Victoria knew that even if she really cried, Theodore might not stop.
She had just turned 17 when she first met Theodore. At that time, her understanding of Theodore was limited to rumors from the outside world: he was arrogant, did things out of line, bullied others, and even almost killed someone... In short, he was not a good person.
Victoria's first impression of Theodore was that he was cold and dangerous. Whenever Theodore came to the Davis family, she would stay away after saying hello. Only when Edward was away for something and she needed to entertain guests did she have to be alone with Theodore .
At that time, she had just started learning chess, so she invited Theodore to play chess with her. Edward taught her chess by hand, and she felt that she had learned it quite well. Edward always let her win, even when she regretted her moves, but Theodore was completely different.
He was merciless and wanted to kill everyone. Victoria was not afraid of losing, but she didn't like being abused. She didn't want to play anymore and wanted to put away the chessboard, but Theodore's narrow and sharp eyes glanced at her lazily and said sarcastically: "You run away after losing, isn't it shameful?"
During that time, she even had a shadow on chess.
Edward came back after answering the phone, glanced at the card table and understood the situation, raised an eyebrow and asked: "Why are you bullying my little nine?"
Victoria quickly gave him a seat. Although she was very unhappy about being targeted by Theodore, she had to endure it now because she needed help from someone else. She also found a way out for Theodore: "I'm not very good at fighting."
Edward smiled and patted her on the back of the head twice. As usual, he threw his phone to her and went back to the table: "Watch carefully."
Edward and Theodore were evenly matched and the game was a close one. At least it saved Victoria 's face. Victoria watched the game from the side. She had never learned these skills before and played cards entirely by luck. Now she realized that there are many tricks, such as counting cards and looking ahead ten steps ahead. In addition to her own cards, she also had to know everyone else's cards.
When the battle was tense, she quietly moved to the other side when no one was paying attention. She took a look at Theodore 's cards, but didn't understand them. Because this man didn't care about the cards at all, he just put them the way he got them back, with the four of a kind and the nine of a tube sandwiched between the fortune, and the ten thousand and the twenty thousand far apart. The scattered cards have a built-in anti-peeping effect.
When Victoria was trying to figure out what cards he was waiting for in her mind, Theodore suddenly tilted his head without warning: "Do you understand, little undercover?"
The few people who were originally focused on the card game immediately looked towards Victoria. She felt like a thief who was caught on the spot and publicly executed. "I didn't..." She wanted to explain that she was not peeking, but was just curious about his playing style.
Theodore rocked his chair and said in a tone like he was sending a child away, "Listen, it's worth 80,000. Go back and tell your brother."
When gods fight, the common people always suffer. Alexander lost so much that his pants were almost gone. He suddenly realized something and slapped his thigh: "I was wondering why Edward always wins. It turns out that he has a little yellow hat!" Victoria was speechless. Edward just smiled and said nothing. He tapped the half-smoked cigarette in his hand on the crystal ashtray. He did not argue and just took the crime of sending an undercover agent. "All is fair in war." As he said that, he played 80,000.
Theodore really listened to the 80,000, and pushed the cards down and shook the chair without any courtesy: "Win." Victoria really wanted to kick the leg of his chair. She sat back obediently and never went to Theodore's side again.
At midnight, the cake with candles on it was pushed in front of Edward . Everyone formed a circle and sang Happy Birthday, and he was surrounded in the center. Victoria didn't know who pushed her and she went to the back. This kind of thing would never happen before she was eighteen years old. Everyone around Edward knew how much he doted on her. But sooner or later, she had to get used to it. She couldn't stand by his side forever. Victoria was slowly learning to accept this .
As she was tapping the beat, Edward looked at her over the others. The orange candlelight made his outline clear and dim, and he stretched out his hand to her: "Xiaojiu, come here." Everyone turned around to look at her, and those standing in front quickly stepped aside to make way. Victoria walked over, and Edward put his hand on her left shoulder and brought her to face the candles jumping on the cake. "Make a wish." Victoria used to do this often , she always had so many wishes that she could not make. Her own birthday was not enough, and Edward asked her to make the birthday wish every time. Whatever wish she made, Edward would help her realize it.
Victoria could feel the gazes falling on her, with all kinds of meanings. But the girl who loves to make wishes has grown up and knows that not all wishes can be fulfilled. "I don't have a wish now." Victoria said, "Brother, it's your birthday, you should make one."
Edward 's eyes were dyed deep by the flickering candlelight. When she looked at him again, there was only tenderness in them as before. He touched her hair and said, "Then keep it, and make a wish when you have one."
In the second half of the birthday party, the air was filled with the smell of alcohol. Victoria hadn't had a good rest in the past few days since she came back, and she fell asleep on the sofa. When she woke up, she was covered with a blanket and the servant was standing by her side. Seeing that she was awake, he said, "The young master said that if you are sleepy, go to the room upstairs to sleep."
Victoria looked in the direction of the people talking and laughing, and saw Edward and Alexander and the others still drinking. This group of young men were drunk, and there were beautiful and charming women leaning on their arms. Edward was the birthday boy today, so he was inevitably forced to drink by those people. He leaned back on the sofa with his long legs crossed and relaxed, and two buttons of his white shirt were undone. His right hand holding a cigarette rested on the armrest of the sofa, and the cigarette was still burning. He didn't know if he was drunk or absent-minded.
The woman sitting next to Edward was particularly beautiful. Victoria felt familiar, as if she was a female star, but she couldn't remember for a moment. She seemed to be still asleep, staring blankly in Edward 's direction. Hearing Alexander's drunken teasing: "I took a flight to celebrate your birthday in the middle of the night, why don't you show any appreciation?" Edward laughed and said, "Are you jealous?" Alexander said, "If I'm jealous, why don't you give it to me?" The female star smiled sweetly and naturally leaned her chin on Edward 's shoulder. This was her privilege in the past. She had been very attached to Edward since she was a child. When Edward went out to play with Alexander and the others, she insisted on going with them, and Edward always took her with him. Because she was there, they played very simply. At that time, there were no women around Edward, and when she was sleepy, she would lie on him and sleep.
Victoria's eyes shrank back to the ground. Her fingers, which were supported on the edge of the sofa, turned white. After a moment, she raised her head again , and there was nothing unusual. She asked the servant, " Where is Brother Theodore?" "I didn't see Theodore. He must have left." Victoria immediately stood up and hurried towards the parking lot. The servant held a blanket behind her and asked, "Are you leaving? Aren't you going to tell the master?" Victoria shook her head, "I won't disturb him."
