Chapter 16 The Undercurrent of a Time Bomb
Victoria's body froze in an instant, as if she was bound by invisible chains and couldn't move. She pinched her fingertips with great effort, and after struggling for a while, she finally found her voice: "No, don't get me wrong. Those words of Rebecca were just lies she made up out of jealousy. We have always had a bad relationship, and she is deliberately hurting me."
Sarah 's expression was hard to read. Victoria had no idea whether she believed this explanation. After all, they were not real siblings. Victoria thought from her perspective. If she were in Sarah 's position, she would probably feel resentful. Silence was like a heavy curtain. After a moment, Victoria spoke again, with a hint of helplessness and determination in her voice: "You don't need to believe me, just believe in my brother's character. I hope that my existence will not become a stumbling block to your opinion of him."
When Victoria returned to the box, the topic had quietly changed. The sofa where Theodore had been sitting was empty, and he and the cheongsam beauty were nowhere to be found. Victoria didn't care about it, she picked up her bag and prepared to leave. Alexander looked confused: "Why are you leaving right after you got here? Aren't you going to wait for your brother?"
