Het standpunt van Caleb

Het was zo moeilijk om Daphne vanmorgen te verlaten. Ik werd eerder wakker dan normaal, zodat ik haar nog een paar momenten kon zien slapen. Vandaag is de dag dat we ons formeel aan elkaar verbinden, in het bijzijn van onze vrienden, roedelleden en de gemeenschap. Ik heb zo lang op deze dag gewacht en ik ben zo blij dat het zover is. Ik weet dat Daphne denkt dat ik haar heb gered, maar in werkelijkheid heeft ze mij gered. Het is dankzij haar dat de duisternis in mij, de boosheid, de razernij eindelijk is verdwenen. Ik ben meer gefocust op mijn roedel, op het leiden van ons en het beschermen van ons. Ik zal elke dag die ik kan besteden aan het laten zien hoe dankbaar ik haar ben.

Ik heb besloten dat vanavond de avond zal zijn dat ik haar vertel hoe ik me voel. Hoe graag ik haar zie slapen , haar stem hoor en haar aanraking voel. Ik zal haar vertellen hoe ze mij heeft gered van verwildering. Ik zal haar vertellen hoe ik verdwaal in haar ogen, in haar geur. Hoe haar lach klinkt als kerstklokken. Ik zal haar vertellen hoe hopeloos verliefd ik op haar ben geworden.
