"Jess -" Rafe steekt zijn hand uit naar zijn neef, zich er diep van bewust dat hij een brug is overgestoken die hij nooit, maar dan ook nooit had willen oversteken. Dat hij de woorden heeft gezegd waar zijn neef misschien zijn hele leven op heeft gewacht en gevreesd.

"Nee," zegt Jesse, zijn hoofd schuddend, zijn ogen vullen zich met tranen. "Jij hebt het gezegd. Nu moet je het toegeven. Want je hebt fucking gelijk."

Al Rafe's woede laat hem in een haast achter en hij staart naar zijn neef, gekweld door wat hij net heeft gedaan. Om wat hij met zijn stomme woede heeft laten gebeuren - woorden die hij niet eens meende tegen zijn beste vriend ter wereld, alleen omdat hij zijn geduld verloor en hem - zo graag - pijn wilde doen.
