De ouders van de tweeling namen bijna een hele dag later contact met ons op. Hoewel ze het adres van het safehouse hadden, was er voor ons geen manier om contact te leggen met iemand in de buitenwereld. Er waren geen telefoons in het hele huis en onze eigen mobiele telefoons raakten kwijt of gingen kapot tijdens de chaos.

“ Ze komen hier niet.” Kade stelde me gerust, “Marcus' mannen kunnen overal zijn. Hier komen zou alleen maar problemen opleveren.”

Hoewel ik deze uren met de tweeling koesterde, waren ze vervuld van angst. Ik kon het niet helpen dat ik het gevoel had dat de wereld zijn adem inhield, wachtend op de volgende zet. Marcus had duidelijk de eerste zet gedaan, door mij samen met Tori en de tweeling te laten vangen. Wij waren aan de beurt, maar we waren niet in staat om iets te doen.
