In anxiety, I quickly sent a voice message, but the lizard inexplicably stopped moving. It lost its vigorous momentum, giving me a chance to catch my breath. But the short calm did not last long. Its body began to slowly approach me, and a faint whimpering sound came from its throat. The sound was like a whine and a cry for help, which was completely different from what I heard in the animal science video. However, at this moment, I had no time to listen carefully. I could only follow its step-by-step approach and step back until my body was close to the door.
I tried to turn the doorknob and was surprised to find that the door was not locked. So I suddenly turned the handle, escaped from the door, and quickly closed the door, completely isolating myself from the danger behind the door. I leaned against the wall with my back, still feeling scared of what had just happened. Thinking back to the layout of the room, there was only one carpet. If I failed to dodge in time, the consequences would be disastrous. I really couldn't imagine whether I would become its prey.
I pondered over and over, but I still couldn't understand how those guests could accept such a terrible thing. Why didn't they feel scared? Why did a group of guests linger here? This lizard was so terrible, what on earth were they enjoying? A series of questions flooded into my mind, and my mind was almost on the verge of collapse.
As I walked out, my legs were still trembling slightly with fear, but the screams from the room were still echoing in my ears. When I walked to the room at the door, I couldn't help but stop. In stark contrast to the previous screams, the silence here was creepy.
Driven by curiosity, I reached out and twisted the door. What caught my eye were two lizards, one big and one small. They lay on the ground weakly, foaming at the mouth, and looked non-aggressive. The smaller one curled up on the big one, as if seeking a sense of security. Their eyes were dull and the scales on their bodies had lost their former luster.
I couldn't help but wonder, how could a shrewd businessman like my sister let two money-making tools lie in this room so decadently to rest? I frowned and walked over. Just as I bent down to take a closer look, I heard my sister's angry shout from behind: "What are you doing here? Get out!"
"Who let you in? Get out!"
I was so frightened that I trembled all over and quickly turned to explain to her: "No, I just heard no movement in this room, so I came in to take a look."
"Why don't these two have to receive guests? Why do they look so listless? The size of this smaller one is much smaller than the others..."
"Didn't you ask me to familiarize myself with them in advance? Then I also need to understand the situation of these lizards."
However, after hearing what I said, my sister's face suddenly turned gloomy. She said in a deep voice, "Don't worry about these two. They are too old and are about to die. I will take them to be euthanized before you come to work. I put them here to show their pity and to serve as mascots. Go out and don't come into this room again."
