Chapter 7 The Mystery of the Mysterious Proverbs
"Dad!" Shirley's face was as pale as a palette, and it was obvious that her emotions were on the verge of losing control. "We're just going to let Serena leave like this?!"
Samuel lit a cigarette, frowning, and a hint of helplessness was revealed in the smoke. "The Miller family is here, what can we do? If things get out of hand, it will only harm the Smith family."
"But the yard and hospital left by the Shi family have been sold by us to fill the deficit of the group. What can we give back to Serena?" Shirley was indignant, with unwillingness flashing in her eyes.
"And the Miller family's betrothal gift. Our Smith family has treated Serena well over the years , but she has the nerve to take it all and leave nothing for us ?! " When she mentioned the 2 billion and the two expensive mansions, her tone was full of grief.
" This ungrateful bitch!" Rosalind 's plump face was twisted with anger, and she looked even more sarcastic. "If I had known this, I shouldn't have adopted her seven years ago!"
"Enough, stop talking nonsense!" Samuel took a deep puff of his cigarette, staring ahead with his eyes like torches. "Serena may not know that the hospital and the yard have been sold. Since we have already promised in front of the Miller family, we have to find a way to buy them back." A gloomy flashed in his eyes, "As for the 2 billion, we will go to the Miller family in a few days and have a good talk with her."
Kyoto, suburbs. Miller family manor, a magnificent Chinese-style building complex, with the words " Miller House" engraved on the towering gate , with a majestic and imposing manner. Before arriving at the place, you can already feel its simple and cold charm.
Entering the manor, you will see green trees, pavilions and waterside pavilions. However, the atmosphere in the backyard is incompatible with this beautiful scenery.
"Dad," a middle-aged man with glasses and a dignified face said with displeasure, "Do you really want Tristan to marry that unpresentable woman?"
A beautiful middle-aged woman wearing a navy blue Chinese cheongsam and well-maintained herself lowered her head and said nothing.
"Shi girl is the granddaughter of my old friend and the one I like. She is definitely not what you said she was not worthy of being on the stage!" Frederick glared at Richard and said sternly, "If you keep talking nonsense, get out now!"
As soon as these words were spoken, the atmosphere froze instantly.
"Dad," the beautiful middle-aged woman winked at Richard secretly , and then smiled apologetically at Frederick , " Richard just cares about Tristan , nothing else."
" Don't I know my own son better than you?" Frederick frowned, his displeasure evident in his words.
The middle-aged beautiful woman was stunned, and a hint of embarrassment flashed across her delicately made-up face. "Yes."
"Dad, Wendy didn't mean that..." Richard wanted to defend his wife but was interrupted by Frederick.
"I don't care what you mean!" Frederick's eyes were sharp and he would not allow any doubt, "Tristan and Shi's marriage is a foregone conclusion. Nothing you say can change it."
"Dad!!" Richard frowned, his face full of anxiety.
"The old man of the Shi family has been missing for many years, and this girl surnamed Shi is already an orphan. What benefit will Tristan get from marrying her ?"
" Benefit?" Frederick raised his eyebrows and sneered, his eyes full of disappointment, "When has my Miller family ever needed to rely on marriage to gain benefits? It has always been others who have relied on my Miller family to gain benefits."
Frederick's words were meaningful. Wendy's expression remained unchanged, but her tightly clenched hands betrayed her inner turmoil. This stubborn old man!
"Dad," Richard wanted to argue.
"The Johnson family..."
"That's enough, stop talking nonsense!" Frederick put down his teacup heavily and interrupted him. "If you have the time, take care of Tristan's health instead of worrying about it here." His deep eyes were full of sternness, "Get out."
Richard looked at his father's face and dared not say anything. His elegant face was livid.
" Richard , let's go." Wendy glanced at her husband, then smiled softly at Frederick , "Dad, Trevor has returned from studying in Country F. We will bring him back to see you in a few days."
Frederick lowered his eyes and fiddled with the tea leaves, responding calmly.
Richard and Wendy left Miller House, they saw four Rolls-Royces with consecutive numbers coming towards them.
"Such a grand ceremony," Wendy said with a slightly annoyed expression, but a smile was hidden in her eyes, "It seems that Dad really thinks highly of this Miss Shi."
She knew that coming to the Miller family to oppose Tristan 's marriage was just a formality. Deep down, she even hoped that Tristan could marry such a woman of ordinary origin, because such a wife would be easier to control.
" Value?" Richard did not notice his wife's gloating, and his eyebrows were full of disgust. "Dad values the medical skills of the Shi family and the advice that the old man in Taoist robes gave Tristan more than 20 years ago , not this woman."
When the word "maxim" was mentioned, Wendy's eyes flashed, and she asked casually, "Richard, what exactly is the maxim?"
she first married into the Miller family, she overheard Frederick and Richard mention the Proverbs, but whenever she asked, Richard's face changed drastically and he refused to reveal anything.
"It's about Tristan..." Richard blurted out angrily, then suddenly realized it.
"Wendy, didn't I tell you not to ask about this anymore?"
"I understand. I won't ask again." Wendy looked disappointed and lowered her head.
" Richard , I have been married into the Miller family for more than 20 years, but you and dad have never treated me as a family member."
"That's not the case," Richard sighed and began to comfort his wife softly.
On the other side, in an office on the top floor of a building in a prime location in central Kyoto.
"Tristan," Ethan bowed his head respectfully.
"There's news from the old house."
