Chapter 5: Sky-high Bride Price
The atmosphere in the Smith family villa was solemn and tense.
"William," Samuel brought the tea to the gentle middle-aged man in front of him, with a flattering smile on his face, "Please have some tea."
Rosalind, who was standing next to him, wore a black Chanel skirt suit, which made her plump figure look dignified and elegant. Shirley, on the other hand, wore a blue dress with delicate makeup on her face, looking gentle and dignified. Both of them also had decent smiles on their faces, trying to leave a good impression on the housekeeper of the Miller family.
William had been a butler in the Miller family for decades, so the Smith family naturally dared not neglect him in the slightest.
" Mr. Smith, you are too polite," William took the cup and put it aside, smiling softly, "The old man asked me to pick up the young lady, I wonder where she is now?"
Shirley and Rosalind looked at each other, and there was a hint of unnaturalness and guilt in their eyes.
"William, to be honest," Samuel said with a sigh, his expression unchanged, "Serena accidentally fell down the stairs yesterday and is still in a coma."
His face was full of heartache and worry, but there was a barely perceptible cunning glimmer in his eyes.
"But the doctor said it's nothing serious and he will wake up in the next two days. What do you think..." he asked tentatively.
Falling down the stairs?
William frowned slightly, and a hint of doubt flashed in his lowered eyes. He knew very well that the Miller family valued this young lady, so he couldn't help but feel a little doubtful.
"The health of the young lady is the most important thing." When he looked up again, the smile on his face had faded a bit. "Once you have recovered, it won't be too late to return to the Miller family."
This was exactly what Samuel wanted. He was secretly happy, but on the surface he still maintained a worried look.
"That's right," Samuel continued to smile after receiving Rosalind 's eye signal, " William , let's discuss other wedding details first?"
As Serena 's family, the Smith family is also considered half the host family at the wedding. By then, they will definitely be able to make many connections with the upper-class families in Kyoto.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Smith," William's expression was still as gentle as before, but his eyes were somewhat ambiguous, "The young master has been quite busy recently, and the old man wants to keep everything simple and not hold a wedding."
No wedding?!
The smile on Samuel 's face froze instantly, and Rosalind 's eyes flashed with dissatisfaction and disappointment. Only Shirley felt relieved after the initial disappointment. It seemed that Serena was not valued at all in the Miller family , which made her feel a little happy.
" Although the wedding cannot be held, we in the Miller family will not be short of the proper etiquette," William took in the expressions of the three people, then turned around and took an exquisite box from the young man behind him and put it on the table, "This is the betrothal gift prepared for the young lady, please take a look, Mr. Smith."
As he spoke, he gently opened the box, revealing a bank card and a contract.
"This is an exclusive card prepared by the Miller family for the young lady. There is no upper limit on the amount," William explained with a smile, "The contract states that the old man gave the young lady two manors in the west of the city."
Unlimited card? Two manors in the west of the city? Even though Samuel and Rosalind were well prepared, they were still deeply shocked by the Miller family 's wealth. They looked at each other, their eyes flashing with greed and excitement that could not be concealed.
Rosalie clenched her hands tightly, and her carefully dressed face was full of uncontrollable excitement and anticipation. The Miller family 's card can not only help the Smith family survive the current financial crisis, but also allow it to take a big step forward. Besides, the land in the west of the city is very valuable, and the manor is even more priceless. The people living there are all well-known figures in the capital. If the Smith family moves there, it is only a matter of time before they make friends with them.
" William ," Rosalind smiled at William , suppressing her excitement , "We will accept this gift for Serena first and wait until she wakes up..."
However, before she could finish her words, she was interrupted by a soft but firm voice. "No need, aunt. I'm already awake."
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked over. They saw a slender figure slowly walking down the stairs. The figure was graceful and elegant, like a fairy walking out of a painting.
