In the study, the lights were dim and the atmosphere was solemn. I pushed a bank card over and said with a bit of determination: "I have already met with the Smith's family for dinner as you requested. This card contains the price of the house I live in Germany. Now, can you sell it to me?"
Cheryl Williams sat behind the desk, stretched out her hand and pushed the card back, her face full of coldness: "No hurry, I will give it to you directly after you and Celine Smith officially get the marriage certificate."
"If I remember correctly, you said that if I came back to meet the Smith's family, you would give me the apartment." I argued, unwilling to compromise.
" Simon Johnson ." Cheryl Williams ' voice became lower, and it was the official way I was used to seeing, "As an adult, you should understand your responsibilities."
"Cheryl Williams, as a successful businessman, you cannot be dishonest." I responded without showing any weakness.
"Simon Johnson, have you been living too wild these years abroad? You don't even have the most basic manners?" Cheryl Williams' tone was full of blame.
I looked at her silently, and finally chuckled: "How could that be? These six years abroad are probably my favorite six years." There was a bit of self-mockery and helplessness in my words.
Cheryl Williams saw my stubborn look, lowered her head and pinched her eyebrows, as if she was very troubled by me. "When you get engaged, I will fulfill my promise." She said tiredly.
I was silent for a few seconds, staring at the plain ring on my finger that was emitting a warm light, and said in a dry voice: "Okay, if you breach the contract again, I can't think of what I will do." There was a hint of threat and determination in my words.
As I turned to leave, Cheryl Williams' tired voice came from behind me: " Simon Johnson , can you be considerate of your parents? Be sensible." There was a bit of pleading and helplessness in her words.
I paused before turning the doorknob, and laughed mockingly, almost inaudibly. Then, I opened the door without hesitation and walked out. In the living room, Justin Johnson was holding Alex Johnson's hand and acting coquettishly, and Alex Johnson patted Justin Johnson's head lovingly. The scene was so warm, but it had nothing to do with me.
"Dad, I love you the most!" Justin Johnson's voice was sweet and pleasant, but it made me feel a little sad.
I watched all this silently, and Grace Johnson stood behind me and touched my hair. "Why don't you go over there?" she asked softly.
I didn't answer her, but my eyes showed disgust. I walked around the living room and left the Johnson's family villa. This so-called sister had left me in the park because she wanted to watch Justin Johnson's hip-hop competition. Why was she pretending to be a good sister now? I was filled with disdain and indifference.
