I thought that my fate with Alexander was over and I would never see him again in this life. However, fate always likes to play tricks on me. On the second day after I started working at my new company, he unexpectedly appeared at the company gate.
"Laura, I remember you mentioned that you wanted to start a business in Y City when you graduated." There was a hint of fatigue in his voice, his eyes were bloodshot, and he held my hand tightly. "I have quit my job in S City. I will come here to accompany you, okay?"
I was slightly stunned, with mixed feelings in my heart. You know, the company he works for is a leader in the industry, and he has mentioned to me many times that it has been his dream since he was a child to be able to join that company.
" Laura , I have made it clear to Donna . I know that her arrival has affected our relationship." He explained anxiously, "I promise that I will never answer her calls again in the future. Let her solve her own problems."
Just as he made his promise, the familiar, special ringtone belonging to Donna rang again. Alexander subconsciously wanted to pick up the phone, but then he remembered his promise to me and hung up the phone awkwardly.
However, Donna didn't seem to give up, and the phone calls kept coming. We stood at the door, looking particularly conspicuous, and the eyes of the people around us were quietly cast on us.
" Answer it, just in case something really happens." I said casually, but my heart was calm. After all, we had broken up, and I no longer cared about his choices.
The call was connected, Alexander turned on the speakerphone, and Donna's crying voice came immediately: "Brother Alexander, I'm lost at the Y City High-Speed Railway Station. The sun is so bright, I'm about to faint..."
Alexander's expression instantly became panic, and he looked at me anxiously. I took a deep breath and said calmly, "You go. This little girl is in a strange city for the first time and she is unfamiliar with the place. It is only right that I take care of her."
My words were not false. After all, the weather was hot now. If Donna really fainted and was abducted, I would be blamed.
" Laura , wait for me. I'll buy her a ticket back to S City now. When you get off work, I'll pick you up for dinner." He said hurriedly, then let go of my hand.
I didn't answer, but took advantage of the moment when he let go of my hand and turned around and walked into the company.
That night, Alexander appeared in front of me with a big bunch of roses in his hands, followed by Donna . " Donna said it was her first time in Y City and she wanted to go shopping before going back." He explained, and then handed the flowers to me, " Laura , I remember you like roses the most, let's go to dinner together." I looked at the bouquet of flowers, feeling mixed emotions. Alexander always does this, giving me a bouquet of roses every time he apologizes. But he doesn't know that I don't like flowers, and I'm even allergic to pollen. In order not to embarrass him, I always accept them despite the discomfort, but I have to endure the torture of allergies for the next week.
"I need to go home and rest, Mr. Zhong, please make way." I said coldly, "Also, I never like roses. I am allergic to pollen."
Alexander's eyes moistened when he heard this, and he held my clothes tightly: " Laura , please, let's have a good chat."
I sighed helplessly, and the crowd of people who were leaving work were already around. I had no choice but to get into his car and watched him open the passenger door. Donna naturally got in. I habitually opened the back door and sat down. Only Alexander 's face became ugly.
"Laura, you sit in the passenger seat." He said, then looked at Donna, "Donna, the passenger seat is for girlfriends, you go to the back seat."
Donna was unwilling to do so. She grabbed Alexander's clothes and started crying, "Brother Alexander, I'm carsick and can't sit in the back seat. And we always sat like this before, and Sister Laura never got angry." Alexander was stunned. He seemed to realize that since Donna came to this city, the passenger seat that belonged to me had changed owners. He didn't insist, but ordered a designated driver online and sat next to me silently.
"Laura, I'm sorry. I let Donna sit in the front just because she was carsick. I was too careless and didn't notice your feelings." He apologized sincerely, "Give me another chance, okay? I promise that this won't happen again."
