Chapter 5
She saved my face?
Jessica subconsciously reached out and touched her cheek, then she remembered the two slaps she had received.
"No, my parents beat me."
Timothy listened to Jessica's explanation and guessed what must have happened tonight. Just as he was about to ask about it, his phone suddenly vibrated twice. A message came in. It was from Charles.
[I said Jessica must have been upset tonight, and it turned out to be true! ]
[Your nephew is a piece of shit. He pretends to be a decent person, but he actually keeps someone outside.] After two consecutive messages, he sent a long video. Timothy glanced at Jessica and said, "I'm going to go downstairs to smoke a cigarette. Wait for a moment."
Jessica needed help at the moment, so how could she refuse? She quickly responded, "Okay."
After Timothy got out of the car, Paul, who had been waiting outside , came up immediately. Timothy asked him for a cigarette and watched the video while smoking. Jessica waited in the car for about fifteen minutes. She guessed that Timothy went down to consider whether to help her, and he should be able to give her an answer when he came back. Therefore, when Timothy opened the door and came in again, she immediately sat up straight, but waited for a sentence:
"Maybe you need to rest now."
After watching the video, Timothy knew that she had suffered a great injustice tonight. He was worried that she had made such a decision on impulse, so he asked her to go back and calm down. "Go home and have a good sleep. If you still want to cancel the wedding when you wake up tomorrow, come to me again." He was afraid that she would regret it, so he gave her time to think it over.
Jessica understood what he meant. She also knew that because of her previous devoted and clingy attitude towards Justin, no one would believe that she would really give up Justin.
" Uncle, I am straightforward and impulsive, but I have always been in awe of you. If it weren't for the last resort, I wouldn't dare to bother you." Jessica looked up at Timothy , her tone calm and firm, without any joking intention.
" The first time I asked you to help me keep the engagement and keep Justin , I was serious. This time, I am also serious when I come to you for help."
Timothy saw her determination, and with a hint of solemnity in his low and hoarse voice, he mentioned the wedding date: "The wedding is in three months. Do you know what you will face if you cancel the wedding now?" If the wedding is canceled, no matter what the reason, Jessica will be ridiculed and discussed, and she will also suffer. Jessica is naturally well aware of these subsequent chain reactions.
However, she was not afraid. Shame? She had lost it a long time ago. What was the point of having it? Let them laugh, whoever wants to laugh can laugh, they deserve it.
" Uncle, I have thought it through very clearly when I decided to come to you. I am sure I don't want this marriage; I am sure I don't want Justin either." Jessica thought that Timothy reminded her again and again because he was afraid that she would regret it and come to him again. She thought he was too troublesome, so she raised her hand and swore, "Uncle, this is really the last time. After this time, please treat it as if I have never saved you. I will never bother you again, really."
Saving Timothy was purely an accident. On her way home from her grandmother's cemetery that day, she encountered a car accident scene. A white car had somehow turned upside down, the front of the car was horribly damaged, thick smoke billowed, and flames kept coming out of the bottom. The place was remote and it was already evening, and there were almost no people around. Although Jessica was afraid, she instinctively ran over after calling the police.
There were people in the driver's seat and the front passenger seat. The man in the front passenger seat begged her to save the driver in the driver's seat first. Unfortunately, the situation in the driver's seat was too tragic. The driver's whole body was stuck. She tried several times but couldn't pull it out, and the driver had lost consciousness. In comparison, the situation in the front passenger seat was much better. The man's legs were only stuck. She broke the glass, struggled to open the deformed car door, got in, and helped the man move his legs. The flames were getting more and more fierce, and the crackling sound of burning seemed to be counting down to life. Jessica was almost unable to open her eyes due to the thick smoke. Fortunately, the man was not unconscious and could still exert himself.
When she pulled the man out, Jessica herself felt incredible. Later, the car caught fire and the fire engulfed the entire vehicle. She was scared to death. What a lucky guy! At that time, she was also injured on her hands and arms. On the way to the hospital with the ambulance, she realized that the person she saved was Timothy .
The person was saved by accident, and she did it voluntarily. She shouldn't have chased him to ask for help. However, for Justin , she had already asked for help once, and now she was shameless enough to ask for help a second time. She secretly swore that there would be no next time, and even she felt ashamed.
The car was silent. Timothy slowly spoke in Jessica 's expectation: "The last question, if Justin married someone else, what would you do?"
Jessica was stunned. Marry someone else? Violet? Justin loved Violet so much. Once their wedding was cancelled, Justin would probably marry her, even if it would be difficult for Violet to join the Thomas family.
If Justin married Violet...
"I will give up on him. Whatever happens to him in the future has nothing to do with me." Jessica said, "It's better if he gets married. Then we can move on completely."
This is what she really said. She now hopes that Violet can marry Justin as she wishes . Justin 's mother despises the poor and loves the rich. She attaches great importance to class concepts and matching. The woman doesn't even look down on her identity as the daughter of the Smith family . She would mock and make things difficult for her from time to time. She was able to get engaged to Justin not because of the childhood marriage but because of Timothy . Violet came from a small family and was like an ant in the eyes of Justin's mother. If Violet really married him, hum, there would be a war between the mother-in-law and the daughter-in-law . I'm afraid the Thomas family will never have peace.
Timothy stared at her with misty eyes for a while and said, "Think it through and don't regret it."
This means he agreed to help. Jessica's tense body relaxed a little and she said gratefully, "Thank you, uncle."
Timothy's dark eyes were always on her. When she finished thanking him and was about to get off the car, he suddenly called her, "Jessica."
Jessica was about to open the door when she heard the sound and turned back to look at him. Timothy said, "Three times is the limit. I owe you three wishes for saving my life. You have already used two, and there is one left."
Jessica was stunned, "Huh?" He could fulfill one more of her wishes? There was such a good thing? Didn't he find her annoying? She had shamelessly asked him twice for a life-saving favor, and he actually gave her one more wish.
While she was stunned, Timothy had already opened the door and got out of the car, and a deep voice came: "Write down Paul 's phone number, and call Paul when you know what you want ."
Before closing the door, Timothy paused and added casually, "You can ask for anything for the third chance. It doesn't matter how outrageous it is. As long as you ask, I will agree."
"Okay, thank you uncle." Jessica responded.
When Jessica came to her senses, Timothy was no longer in the car. She quickly turned around and prepared to get out of the car. As soon as she touched the door handle, someone came into the driver's seat - it was Paul.
"Jessica, do you want to write down my phone number?" Paul leaned back and asked calmly. Timothy 's promise is not something that everyone can get. Jessica is not stupid, and she can't miss such a good thing. "Okay." She replied. However, when she took out her phone, she found that it was turned off and had no battery, so Paul gave her his business card. Paul offered to take her home, but Jessica quickly refused and said, "It's too much trouble."
"No problem. Mr. Thomas's dinner isn't over yet. I can still come back in time after I drop you off." Paul buckled his seat belt and smiled. "You didn't drive. Mr. Thomas said it's not safe for you to take a taxi alone so late, so he asked me to drop you off."
Jessica thought that her phone was out of battery and she didn't bring any cash, so she didn't refuse. "Thank my uncle for me."
Who is saying that the uncle of Thomas family is cold-blooded, selfish and heartless? It's just a rumor! He is actually a nice guy.
After Timothy returned to the club, he went directly to the third floor.
Half an hour ago, the dinner was over, and everyone moved to the private room, sitting around a table playing cards. Charles saw Timothy coming in, and he gently raised the cards in his hand as a greeting. Timothy responded and someone immediately vacated his seat. He took the cards, quickly examined the game, and when it was his turn, he calmly drew the cards and threw them neatly.
Charles leaned over and whispered, "Did the little princess really decide to cancel the wedding?" His curiosity was hard to hide.
Just at this moment, Jessica arrived. Charles wanted to leave with Timothy, but was dissuaded by Timothy. Timothy explained that the little girl had a request for help and that too many people might embarrass her, so she should be given respect and space. Charles thought it made sense and did not insist. It was just surprising that Jessica and Justin, childhood sweethearts, suddenly wanted to cancel their engagement.
The two have been together since childhood and have been engaged for 24 years. As time goes by, Justin has grown from a young boy to a sophisticated person, while Jessica has fallen from a family favorite to a lonely figure who is neglected by her childhood sweetheart. Only Jessica 's love for Justin seems to have not been eroded by time. Now she suddenly realizes that there must be something behind it.
Charles knows that today is Sophia's birthday. He didn't remember it on purpose, but mentioned it by chance during the dinner, saying that young talents in Jiangyu City gathered at the Smith family. He speculated that Jessica's mood swings might be related to this, so he asked friends who attended the dinner, and indeed something unexpected happened.
The video sent by his friend made him, a tough man, feel heartbroken for Jessica. No matter what the reason for falling into the water, the family's first concern was their adopted daughter, and the first thing the fiancé saved was someone else. How can this situation not make people feel chilling?
Jessica's unusual silence made Charles even more worried. Candice once said that Jessica is not afraid of making noise, but is afraid of silence. To be noisy is to be unwilling, to be quiet is to be completely hopeless. Therefore, when Jessica went to see Timothy on this trip, she must have been disheartened by Justin.
...
Timothy did not respond directly to Charles , but arranged the cards in his hand and suddenly raised his eyes to look at Charles : " Where is Candice ?"
Charles glanced at Timothy's cards from the corner of his eye and replied casually: "She's on a business trip, why do you ask her?"
Timothy didn't care about Charles' little move: "Call her and ask her if she knows about what happened to the Smith family tonight. If she knows, she will stay with Jessica; if she doesn't know, tell her and let her stay with Jessica."
Charles stole another glance at the cards and declined, "No, she's been bothering me a lot lately and I finally got some time."
Timothy laid out his cards directly: "Fight, I'll let you."
Charles was helpless. He had never defeated Timothy . Tonight, he had to avenge his previous defeat and win the capital to show off. So, he called Candice , and there was a noise from the other end.
" Charles ?" Candice said with a slight breath, "I just got off the plane and I have something urgent to do. If it's not urgent, I'll hang up first?" It turned out that she had just landed and turned on her phone, and she saw Jessica 's missed call. Just as she was about to call back, Charles called.
"Did you get off the plane?" Charles suddenly remembered Jessica's mention of her cell phone being turned off. "Did you go back to Jiangyu?"
Candice spoke quickly: "Well, today is Sophia's birthday. I came back to accompany Jessica and will leave tomorrow morning." Charles could tell that Candice was still unaware of the Smith family's affairs.
"Jessica has some problems. Since you are back, you should spend more time with her. I will send someone else to follow up on the work there. You stay in Jiangyu."
After hanging up the phone, Charles suddenly became confused and turned to look at Timothy : "Why do you care so much about Jessica ?" Otherwise, why would you specifically ask Candice .
Timothy has already made his cards clear, and he plays his cards calmly without paying attention to others peeping: "She saved me before."
Charles took a generous look at the cards and played a suppression card: "Yes, it's a life-saving grace. If I were her, I would definitely ask you to marry me." Timothy ignored him and picked up his phone to send a message to Justin: "See you at the company at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning, bring Violet with you."
