A year later, I lost my life to the pain of childbirth the night Alex Smith returned with his new girlfriend.

Since fate has given me a chance to be reborn, then they should prepare for the coming storm.

Early in the morning, I greeted the dawn and set out for the river, the source of life for the village.

The garbage and animal remains along the way gave me some ideas.

When I returned, Alex Smith was extremely anxious and looking for me everywhere in sweat.

"Where have you been? I thought something happened to you and almost mobilized the whole village to look for you."

In the past, such anxiety would move me and I would think it was a manifestation of his deep love.

But now, his love is like garbage to me, and so is he.

I explained lightly that I was just going to the mountains to enjoy the fresh air.

" Mom should have prepared breakfast, let's go back."

Back at the Smith family, May Brown was standing at the door with a big pig's trotter in her hand. The pregnant woman seemed to have a particularly good appetite.

"Brother, Nina, come quickly, the pig's feet that mom made today are so delicious."

I responded with a smile.

"Sister-in-law, you have such a good appetite even when you are pregnant, and you don't gain weight. You are really envied by many pregnant women. Do you have any secrets? I will ask you for advice when I get pregnant in the future."

May Brown's smile was a little stiff, then she stroked her belly with a deep look in her eyes.

"What secret is there? Look how much I eat. I can't sleep well at night. My child is always making a fuss."

How can a baby who is just over three months old be so exhausted? This is obviously unreasonable.

Alex Smith frowned when he heard this, and kept hinting at me with his eyes, asking me to remember to ask my mother to go to the hospital.

I patted my chest with confidence and promised to complete the task.

At the dinner table, Alex Smith kicked me several times secretly when he saw that I was taking so long to bring it up.

When he stepped on me hard again, I deliberately knocked over the bowl, hugged my foot and screamed.

Everyone asked me about my situation. I pursed my lips, looked at Alex Smith, and spoke awkwardly after a long while.

"Um...sister-in-law, Alex Smith said you didn't look well, and suggested that you go to the hospital for a prenatal check-up and get an ultrasound to see the baby's gender. He was embarrassed to mention it, so he insisted that I tell you this."

After that, I deliberately mumbled a few words, with the voice just right for everyone to hear.

The gist of it was that the baby was too young this month, and it might take a few more ultrasounds to see the gender, and prenatal checkups might have to be done more than a dozen times until delivery.

Alex Smith's expression was very interesting at the time, and he obviously didn't expect me to say that.

Before his mother could speak, May Brown was the first to object.

"I'm not going!"

Her raised voice startled everyone.

May Brown blushed and explained that prenatal check-ups cost a lot of money and it was not easy for David Smith to make money.

When his mother heard this, she clapped her hands with satisfaction.

"Alex Smith, I know you mean well. But when I was pregnant with you two brothers, I didn't go to the hospital once, and I often worked in the fields. Aren't you healthy? I know your sister-in-law's health. She looks bad because the baby was noisy at night, she didn't sleep well, and she was hungry."

Although May Brown 's reaction made me a little confused, achieving the goal is the key.

"Wow! Auntie, you worked in the fields when you were pregnant? Your physical fitness is amazing! And you cook so deliciously, and you can raise two such outstanding sons..."

My series of compliments made her so happy that she started talking about the past incessantly.

I expected Alex Smith not to say that May Brown was not pregnant, and sure enough, he remained silent throughout the rest of the process.

But when he sent me home in the evening, he asked me with a dark face why I mentioned him, and insisted on talking more about the cost of prenatal check-ups.
